A striking Vintage Scheurich West German Fat Lava Vase dating from the 1960s, showcasing the bold sculptural glazing that made West German pottery an icon of mid‑century design. This example features a dramatic Red and Black Fat Lava glaze, with molten, volcanic textures cascading across the form, a hallmark of Scheurich’s most sought‑after production era.

Scheurich, founded in 1928 in Kleinheubach, became one of the leading makers of West German Art Pottery during the post‑war boom. Their 1960s Fat Lava pieces are celebrated for their expressive surfaces, experimental glazes, and strong Mid‑Century Modern silhouettes. Today, they remain highly collectible for their craftsmanship, colour intensity, and unmistakable retro character.

Add a touch of vintage charm to your space with the Otto Keramik Ceramic Yellow/Black West German Fat Lava Animal Bull Small.

This unique piece has a bold yellow and black color scheme. It features the famous Fat Lava glaze, which was popular in mid-century West German ceramics. The small size of this ceramic bull makes it perfect for displaying on a shelf or tabletop. If you collect rare antiques or want to make your home more elegant, this Otto Keramik ceramic animal is a great choice. It will spark conversations. Don’t miss out on this exquisite piece of West German pottery history.

Otto Gerharz was the operations manager at Ruscha Keramik in 1951. He invented what we now call “Fat Lava Glaze.” He established his ceramic studio, “Otto Keramik,” in 1964.

Sadly, he passed away a few years ago. However, his son Otto Junior keeps his legacy alive. He still creates original designs made by his father, using the original molds and glazes.

Dimensions:

Height: 13cm

Width: 10cm

Length: 23cm

Every single Otto Keramik piece is hand-finished and coloured; no two pieces are ever the same.

The ceramic pieces with fat lava glaze have natural bubbles. Sometimes, these bubbles can pop. This is normal with fat lava glaze.

All orders are dispatched within one business day and delivered by courier.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.

Free Shipping.
